Buying Cherries

Here’s a quick tip to save money every Ontario cherry season.  This only works if you like cherries a lot or you buy in bulk.

Instead of picking your cherries and putting them in one of those plastic bags from the roller, pick up the entire box and bring it to the cashier.  The cashier will be confused because they don’t sell cherries by the box and try and find a price for them.  Luckily the cherries inside the box come in a large plastic bag already, so you offer to take them out of the box so that she can weigh them and enter the proper code.  You end up saving quite a bit.

Here’s why.  The size of the bag of cherries is larger than the scale at the cashier.  The border of the scale end up supporting a percentage of the cherries’ weight and decreasing the amount that you pay.

Give it a try next time and see how much you save!  I’ve done it twice and both times it worked!
